Omis Vacations & Tours

Omiš is a town and port in the Dalmatia region of Croatia, approximately 15 miles south-east of Split. It is situated where the Cetina River meets the Adriatic Sea and it is ideally positioned across from the island of Brac. This city has one of the most dramatic locations of any town on the Dalmatian coast at the end of a picturesque canyon, surrounded by massive gorges and ancient vineyards.

The enchanting old town is small and has an atmospheric maze of old streets capped by a castle with a harbor. In the 13th and 14th century Omiš was frequented by pirates, who attacked the trade ships at the mouth of the River.

Visit the Fortress Starigrad

Starigrad Fortress (or Fortica) is a 15th century fortress, built during the Croatian–Ottoman wars as a primary defence against the Ottoman Empire. The precipitous fortification is sited on a high ridge above the town Omiš. It was used as protection from the Ottomans empire who at the time occupied Bosnia and Herzegovina and were constantly attacking the Croatian coastline. The fortress was also a place for the citizens of Omis to retreat in case the attackers came too close. There are some spectacular walks that you can take from this fortress and unsurprisingly, the views of the surroundings are nothing less than breathtaking.
