Frequently Asked Questions

Local Currency

Croatia adopted the Euro in January 2023. Payment onboard and onshore should be made in Euro. It’s recommended that you take sufficient Euro with you to cover the cost of meals and drinks on some of the smaller islands of Croatia.

In the city of Dubrovnik and the towns of Split and Hvar, you can use credit cards and also withdraw funds from ATMs. However, credit cards are not accepted on board the ship. Your Cruise Manager can direct you to local currency exchange offices and ATM machines.

Travel Documentation

Visitors from America, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand do not require a visa to travel to Croatia. Guests from South Africa however, do require a Schengen visa to enter the country. Before you leave home for your luxury Croatian cruise, please ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months, and that your visa is also valid, if this is required. Travel insurance is also your responsibility.

Tipping Customs

It’s customary to give a gratuity as a voluntary way of showing satisfaction and appreciation for the good service that the crew provides. Tips are not included in the price of your cruise. At the end of the cruise, the captain will leave two envelopes in your cabin – one envelope for the crew, and one for the Cruise Director.

We suggest that you leave a tip of:
Ship Crew – between €15-20 per person per day
Cruise Director – between €6-8 per person per day
Please note tips should be paid in cash only.

Meals On Board

The food that is served on board is a combination of traditional and authentic Mediterranean and Croatian cuisine. A selection of complimentary fresh fruit is available for your enjoyment all day long. We serve buffet style, full continental breakfast from 7am to 9am, along with hot dishes like bacon, scrambled eggs and omelettes. At lunch and dinner there are multiple fish, chicken, seafood or pasta dishes to choose from.

Refreshments

On board the ship in the salon, we have a bar with regular opening hours of 7am – 11pm. A wide selection of cold or hot beverages, soft drinks, bottled water, quality local wines, and bottled beers are available to sip while enjoying the views.

Even though the tap water on board is of good quality, we do not recommend that you drink it. Bottled water is provided on board.

If you are interested in trying local Croatian wine, check out our Croatia Wine Cruise here>.

Dietary Preferences

If you have any dietary requirements or preferences, such as diabetic, gluten free, vegetarian, vegan etc, please inform the team as soon as possible. Our galley team will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your personal dietary requests.

Bar Tab

During your cruise you have the opportunity to purchase drinks on board and to charge them to your cabin. At the end of your cruise you must pay your bar bill in cash, as the ship does not always have credit card facilities available on board. You can withdraw cash from a local ATM upon arrival.

Free Wi-Fi Connection

We are pleased to offer you the convenience of free Wi-Fi on board our cruise ships. Wi-Fi connection can be accessed in the salon or from the rear lounge. The Internet connection used is a cellular service, and therefore connection may be unreliable during some periods of sailing. The reception or connection speeds may sometimes drop as a result. Our Wi-Fi connection is best used for checking email or accessing news portals. If you want to download files or to stream videos, we suggest that you do this on another occasion. Skype calls can be made in bigger towns along the sailing route.

Electricity

The electrical current on board the ship is of European 220 volts standard. All plugs in the cabins have two 4.8 mm diameter round pins. To use any appliances (e.g. shavers, battery chargers, etc.) you should pack:

A Universal Transfomer – to convert the power, if your device does not support 220 volts power
Universal Adapter Plugs – for sockets that differ from the ones back home

Cabin Amenities

Bed linen and bath towels are provided in every cabin. The towels are changed every second day. If you require more towels please ask our Cruise Director. Beach towels are not provided.

All cabins are equipped with double or twin beds, a desk and chair, a mirror, night lamps, safety deposit box, radio, hair dryer, 220 V electric supply, the latest safety and fire alarm equipment, and lifejackets. Soap and shampoo are also supplied. There is a wardrobe for the storage of your clothes, and space under the bed for luggage.

Cabins situated on the lower deck feature a porthole and a dual ventilation system (in the bathroom and in the cabin). Main and upper deck cabins have a cabin window. All cabins are soundproofed and have fireproof doors.

You can find more information about our different cruise ships and the amenities on board here.

Wardrobe Requirements

The dress code on our cruise ships is relaxed, casual and comfortable during the day. In the evening, we suggest evening wear that is smart/casual for the Captain’s Dinner, and also for dining out on land. To maximize the space in your cabin, we recommend that you travel light. Ensure that you pack sturdy walking shoes for optimal comfort during sightseeing excursions. Clothes that are suitable for cooler evenings (e.g. a light jacket, a windbreaker or similar item) are also a good idea. Don’t forget your swimwear. Your luggage can be easily stored under the beds, in the allocated space.

The Passenger List

You can expect to meet a mix of guests from all over the world on board on luxury cruise ships. Cruising offers a great way to meet new people from different cultures and to establish long-lasting friendships. For ease of communication, English is the official language on board.

Physical Disabilities

Most passenger ships have limited access for disabled guests. When embarking/disembarking you can expect to encounter steep stairways, higher than average height steps and gaps between boats, when crossing from one boat to another. The travel itinerary also warrants that most of the shore excursions are on foot. You should be able to stand for an extended period of time, if you wish to visit museums and other sites. Our guided walking tours and shore excursions typically last 30-45 minutes and usually include walking over cobbled and uneven surfaces and up and down stairs. Please note: severe walking or physical disabilities may limit your overall experience.

Swimming Activities

We schedule several swim stops in secluded and peaceful bays, during the cruise, weather and season permitting. When we drop anchor you have an opportunity to experience swimming off the back of the boat. For your convenience, there are ladders for easy climbing and two showers available. Guests preferring to swim off the beach will also have ample opportunities to do so. Our ship often docks within easy reach of the popular beaches.

Noise Levels

On board the ship, all guests are asked to behave accordingly and to respect the night peace that officially starts at midnight. We will be docking for the night in ports of varying liveliness, especially during the high season months of July and August. A certain level of noise from the shore and other boats in the harbor is to be expected. Although noise levels usually drop by 12.00pm, sometimes there are local festivities or summer festivals that last long into the night. As the air conditioning in your cabin runs for the whole night, you can comfortably sleep with the windows closed.

Maritime Law

The Captain is entirely responsible for the safety and comfort of the vessel and its passengers. It is therefore within the Captain’s jurisdiction to change the sequence of stops and ports if necessary. This may occur in inclement weather conditions, high or low water levels, dock and lock schedules, or for technical reasons. The Captain also has the right to remove any unruly passengers, and to quarantine the ship in case of disease or similar.

We expect to provide sightseeing excursions of all of the major attractions that are listed in our cruise programs. Although it is unlikely, certain changes in schedules may happen from time to time. The operating hours at museums, galleries and monuments may cause us to alter the sequence of touring. Sailing conditions and other factors may also impact on shore excursion timetables.

Why drive when you can sail

Big thank you to the team at Cruise Croatia for putting us on such a beautiful cat and along with skipper Ivan. We loved the Kornati islands, swimming off the back of the boat and getting away from the hussle and bustle in Split.
