Croatia’s most famous UNESCO-listed national park, Plitvice Lakes National Park are comprised of 16 cascading lakes and travertine waterfalls, and with endemic flora and fauna, they make a thriving ecosystem.
Plitvice is beautiful any time of the year, showing change of seasons, making them a must-see whatever the time of your visit and really should not be missed whilst in the country.
These incredible waterfalls have been a tourist attractions since the late 19th century. As opposed to being any singular attraction, the Plitvice Waterfalls (pronounced “PLIT-vits-uh”) are really a large network of karstic lakes and waterfalls. Just imagine walking besides and even right over lakes full of fish while displaying a color and clarity that rivals China’s Jiuzhaigou. These waterfalls must be experienced whilst you are in Croatia!
Wooden rowing boats are available to hire at the lakeside – an ideal way to discover these extraordinary lakes, interconnected by streams and waterfalls, surrounded by beautiful forestry, plants and caves. Swimming in the lakes is completely prohibited – the water in these lakes are completely pure!
