Explore the enchanting wonders of Croatia while traveling its southern coastline and island hopping from Dubrovnik to Split. This cruise and land adventure of a lifetime starts with your arrival into Dubrovnik International Airport. Private transfer will bring you to your Dubrovnik hotel where you’ll have the afternoon to leisurely explore on your own. If you want to get a taste of the historic center, this is the perfect time to stroll the cobbled streets and wander through the marble paved squares, popping into the various shops and boutiques, and sampling some of the mouthwatering cuisine. If you want to enjoy a panoramic view, take the cable car up to the summit of Mount Srd or a walk along the top of the city walls.
The cruising part of your enchanting journey begins with another private transfer, this time from your Dubrovnik hotel (or the airport if you arrive later) to Gruz Harbour where your ship will be waiting. This afternoon, you’ll get a more in-depth look at the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” and its medieval center on a guided walking tour. As you wander through cobbled streets, you’ll be able to witness sights like Rector’s Palace, one of the most impressive and important buildings in the old Dubrovnik Republic, and even take in the view from atop the defensive walls of the Old City’s red-tiled roofs, the sea, and nearby Elaphiti Islands. return to the ship for the welcome reception and dinner that will begin at 7 pm.
Today we will sail to the charming village of Slano, situated on the mainland. Afternoon arrival in charming Slano, this traditional fisherman’s village was once fortified and is famous for its oysters. From Slano we head towards Ston a sought-after seaside town that is known for its oyster production. You will take a small boat out into the middle of the estuary and enjoy sampling fresh oysters directly from the sea with a dash of lime and some locally produced wine. This very unique experience is one of our client’s favorites! Return to Slano after the oyster tasting for the Captain’s Dinner on board the boat.
Journeying north to Mljet Island this morning, you’ll to get explore its lush national park which covers a third of its landscape. Enjoy time to stroll the paths that wind around the shorelines of the two saltwater lakes in surreal shades of green and blue. The larger lake, known as Great Lake, has an islet in the middle that hosts a 12th-century Benedictine monastery. Cruising on to Korcula Island, named Korkyra Melaina, by the Greeks which translates to “Black Corfu” for its dense, dark forest, you’ll get to enjoy a walking tour with a knowledgeable local guide.
We’ll leave early this morning for Vis, one of Dalmatia’s most remote islands. Along the way we’ll make a swim stop so that you can enjoy a dip in one of the many secluded bays or hidden coves, literally soaking up the breathtaking Croatian scenery. We’ll arrive on unspoiled Vis Island in the afternoon. As it was shut off to the public for 40 years, and used as a naval base, today it offers visitors the opportunity to experience a slice of the “Mediterranean as it once was.” Look forward to a relaxing stroll along the waterfront and wandering through the peaceful streets lined with tavernas, ideal for unwinding with a drink and enjoying some delicious eats too.
Sailing toward Hvar, the island renowned for its world-class nightlife scene, lavender, and vineyards, along the way we’ll stop to enjoy another highlight on the tour, the world-famous Blue Cave on Bisevo Island. This grotto that was naturally sculptured by the sea over the centuries, developed in what you’ll get to witness today, provided conditions allow. Please note that entry to the Blue Cave is subject to weather and sea conditions and therefore the entry fee of EUR20pp is payable on the day. Continuing to Hvar with its yacht-filled harbor, upon our arrival you’ll travel to the small town of Jelsa to visit a family-run winery, one of the most popular on the island, for a wine-tasting tour.
Our ultimate destination today is Trogir, but we’ll make a stop at the town of Bol on Brac Island so that you can gaze upon one of the world’s most spectacular beaches, with its unique horn shape jutting a third of a mile into the clear waters of the aquamarine Adriatic. You’ll have the chance to swim off its shores or enjoy sipping coffee in town before we return to the ship for lunch and set sail for Trogir, an open-air museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with architectural wonders from medieval towers and palaces to the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Lawrence, one of Croatia’s finest examples of sacral architecture.
On the last day of the cruise portion of your trip, we’ll visit the ancient city of Split and its 4th-century Diocletian’s Palace which covers nearly half the city center, built as the retirement residence of the Roman Emperor. Follow our guide into the maze of narrow streets for a walk back in time with landmarks that reveal its 1,700-year-old history touched by the Greeks, Romans, and Venetians, including everything from St. Duje Cathedral and the Temple of Jupiter to the palace cellars, which served as the place where Daenerys trained her dragons in the hit TV series “Game of Thrones.”
This morning, our driver will pick you up at your vessel to bring you to one of the most popular attractions in the entire country, Plitvice Lakes national Park. While you may have seen it in images that are often splashed across the Internet featuring the world’s most beautiful places, nothing can prepare you for what you’re about to witness in person. This UNESCO-protected site is like a fantasy with its 16 interconnected lakes in colors ranging from deep emerald to bright turquoise. Walk the scenic trails to view them, along with tranquil pools and countless picturesque waterfalls. A boat ride across Kozjak Lake is included, with your finale a panoramic train ride back to the park’s entrance.
Next, a private transfer to your hotel in Croatia’s capital of Zagreb, which dates back 3,000 years. Once you’re settled in, you’ll meet your guide for a private tour of the Old Town and its cobbled streets and landmarks such as St. Mark’s Church, Gothic-style Zagreb Cathedral, and the Lower Town with plenty of restaurants, cafes and parks.
This morning is departure day, so you’ll want to have your bags packed and ready for pickup by private transfer to Zagreb Airport after breakfast for your flight home or further travels.
