Cres Island is picturesque island in the Adriatic, situated on the northern part of the Kvarner Gulf, close to the island of Krk, known for its immense beauty. It boasts a 16th-century Venetian Tower and Arsan Palace, which houses Cres Museum and its local costumes, weapons and other relics. In the north, trails run through the Tramuntana forest. Nearby, griffon vultures nest on cliffs near the village of Beli.
Southwest, secluded Sveti Ivan beach lies on a cove below the medieval hilltop village of Lubenice. You will be spellbound by the scenery on the island, which is simply breathtaking. The imposing cliffs shoot out of the ocean and Cres Town has been heavily influenced by the Venetians and is beautiful beyond imagination.
Reach this gorgeous beach via the traditional town of Lubenice, a little old town perched on top of a rocky hill. This pebbly beach has been listed as the 15th most beautiful in the world by the ‘Bild.’ Most people travel to this area by boat and if you’re lucky, you will spot some dolphins as you sail.
Visit the Blue Grotto which is an imposing, hidden cave with a large blue lagoon inside where you can take a refreshing swim.
The imposing Cres Tower was built at the beginning of the 16th century and served as an observation post. With the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797, the defensive ring of the city was torn down & only this defensive tower remained, except for the town gate. From the summit of the tower, you will enjoy truly unique view of old Cres roofs and the charming harbor.
Osor is an ancient town at a crossroads of land and sea routes and is today known as a museum town. There are traces of ancient history at every turn as you walk the ancient streets.
From the prehistoric Osor, there are stone tombs, from the Bronze Age, 9th century BC, the megalithic walls from the 4th-3rd centuries BC which are huge stone blocks near the bottom of the town walls, and numerous Illyrian dwellings.
Remains of classical floor mosaics are found at the cemetery which is where Osor’s cathedral was built in the 5th century. This complex encompassed the entire walled in area of today’s cemetery.
