Diocletian’s Palace, constructed in 305 AD for Roman Emperor Diocletian is the most famous landmark in Split and a UNESCO World Heritage site making it one of the best things to do in Split. When you visit, you’ll be able to explore the palace remains, stroll through the Cardo, which is one of the main streets of the palace, and view the cellar, made famous by Game of Thrones.
Within Diocletian’s Palace is the Sveti Duje or Cathedral of St. Domnius. The view of the town from the bell tower is spectacular.
Split has a beautiful waterfront harbor area called Riva Promenade. Take a leisurely stroll along it, enjoying the view of the Adriatic, and explore the many shops, cafes, and restaurants in the area.
Split Green Market is very close to the entrance of Diocletian’s Palace. It is filled daily with fresh locally sourced products like fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses. Explore the Ivan Meštrović Gallery to learn more about Croatia’s most famous 20th Century sculptor.
Bacvice Beach is only a 5-minute walk from Split. Enjoy the sandy beach, shallow water, and if you like, water slides. This quaint beach is lined with cafes, bars, and nightclubs, and is a favorite destination of the locals. You’ll love it too.
Split’s Old Town dates back to the time of the Romans. Today it is a combination of historic medieval structures and modern conveniences. Diocletian’s Palace is a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in Croatia and was constructed by Roman Emperor Diocletian as a retirement spot. The outer walls of the palace were originally 20 meters high. You can explore the Peristyle, a kind of open-air pavilion, which was originally the central square of the palace. Diocletian’s Palace is one of the remaining best-preserved examples of Roman Empire architecture in the world.
After exploring the palace, experience the splendor of the Riva promenade, lined with cafes and restaurants. Riva is the center of cultural and entertainment activities. Walk along the promenade with its Adriatic seafront view, colorful buildings, and dreamy palm trees.

Klis Fortress is an ancient fortress that was the home of Croatian kings. This fortress served as a major defensive post for the Dalmatia region throughout history. In modern times, it is the filming location for the city-state Meereen from the TV series Game of Thrones.
